Hello? Is this thing on?

September 24, 2010 •

Just downloaded a new iPhone app… named BlogPress.

I haven’t really tried blogging from my phone before, mainly because I was so disappointed by the featureset of the WordPress app.

Either way, BlogPress is looking really cool so far. I’ll see how this thing goes. 🙂

In any case, off to load it onto my iPad now. 😀

Pokémon Black and White Released!

September 19, 2010 •

Pokémon Black Box Art. The new logo looks purdy!Yep, I definitely have to admit… after getting hooked on HeartGold, I’ve become pretty epically addicted to the Pokémon Game Boy series again. XD

In case you haven’t heard yet, as of today, the next generation of Pokémon games, generation 5, Pokémon White and Black were released today!

It’s a pretty interesting turn of events here. There are now 156 new Pokémon (more than the original game!), as well as a pretty radical new 3D camera perspective compared to the last games. Interestingly, it’s still out on the DS, which is a first for the Pokémon generations. Maybe this is an indication of the refresh of game consoles slowing down… O_o

Cosmos Pilot Episode Released Online!

September 7, 2010 •

This is so totally cool! XD

A little while back, do you remember me saying I volunteered to help out as a VFX artist on a pilot TV episode? 🙂

Well, at the end of last year, after I spent 2 months locked in my bedroom animating various 2D and 3d things, we officially finished it. In December I flew over to Melbourne to meet the other production crew and watch the finished cut of the episode. The whole experience was awesome… I should write a blog about that. XD

Anyway, while I was away in Japan, after several months under wraps, the finished pilot episode finally got approved to be shown to the public!! ^_^

So without furthur ado, here is the pilot episode to the Australian TV series Welcome to the Cosmos!

If you get the time, please rate it on YouTube and spread the word around.

I really gotta say. It’s a total buzz seeing your own work finished and up on screen. It definitely makes all the effort totally worth it. XD

In any case, in the weeks to come, I’ll see if I can write some more posts on some of the shots I made and how I went about doing them. 🙂

Enjoy! 😀

Getting my Aussie iPhone working in Japan

Back in January of last year, I went to Japan on a ski trip for 3 weeks. 🙂

Since having a phone with which you can make phone calls is VERY useful in Japan, before I left, I had a chat with Optus on using my iPhone package internationally. The deal was simple; you can do everything overseas as you can at home, but it’ll cost a LOT more.

Several phone calls and 8 hours of using global data roaming, I came home to a phone bill $200 more expensive than what I usually paid. ^_^;

Erm… so. When I was planning to go to Japan this time around, I figured there must be a better way. And so I did a little research. 🙂

Japan trip is over!!

All of my news pals and I at the end of the Asian Youth Camp Wow. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun haha. Before I knew it, I’m back in good ol’ Perth again. XD

Well, if I gotta sum up the whole trip in a few words: it was pretty epic. ^_^

The Asian Youth Camp was a very cool experience. Just to rehash what I said in my last post, it was a 2 week course covering many issues and aspects of multicultural interactions in the Asia Pacific region, and also included several days of going out and experiencing Japan too. We were also required to present a report on our own respective countries, unto which I had a total blast pimping out Australia’s cities, animals and slang (She’ll be roight, mate!). XD

Overall, the camp experience was really cool. I learned a lot of new things, gained a lot new experiences made some very cool new friends along the way.

After the camp ended, I’d booked an extra week before my flight so I could have some free time around Japan (As I expected, the camp was so intense, there wasn’t much time to go out and do any shopping at all!). I caught a bullet train over to Tokyo, and stayed there for a few days between a really cool youth hostel and a good friend’s house.

Greetings from Japan!

The view of Kobe Bay from my hotel windowHoo boy. Talk about your crazy epic prep and packing frenzy. The last thing on my todo list was to write a blog on what’s goin’ on, and I finally got to it. XD

I’m writing this post on a plane, currently flying out of Hong Kong and headed for Kansai, Japan.

Earlier this year, a fellow ECU student and myself were very lucky to receive scholarships to attend a study seminar in Kobe. The seminar will be focused on ‘multicultural symbiosis’, and will run for 2 weeks. It will consist of a lot of pretty interesting activities, including hanging out with a host family and going to make soba noodles out in the countryside.

Since I was very fortunate to receive a similar scholarship back in 2006, I’m extremely honored to be chosen again for another one and plan to do the very best to represent my university, and Australia as a whole. 🙂

Now… the last time I went to Japan, I tried to blog about the stuff I did everyday, but found out that there simply isn’t enough time to do that. ^_^;

So this time, I plan to leverage the latest social media tech to the extreme, and post updates as a go along. This will probably consist of Twitter updates and Foursquare checkins as often as possible (But hopefully not up to spam levels haha).

I learnt from my past trip to Japan that using global roaming on one’s iPhone is a VERY BAD THING TO DO, and this time, I’ve tried renting out a 3G SIM card from DoCoMo, which I’ll report back on here on how well it goes.

Anyway, the plane’s about to land. I’ll be posting this the next chance I get.

See ya round!
